Overuse of technology shows up for different people in different ways. If you hear yourself, your employees, or your coworkers talk about the following effects, you may want to re-evaluate how you’re supporting your team. Especially during today’s climate and trying times, when those who are fortunate are able to keep their jobs by working from home. We must support a work culture that doesn’t value how many hours you spend on your computer or how few hours you sleep, but rather on the impact of your efforts.

Information Overload

We have a world of information at our fingertips and a million different ways to share that information. However, when given too much information, employees can feel overwhelmed, paralyzed, and uncertain.

We want our employees to be empowered, confident, and understand their path to victory. To do so, we need to build a culture of priority and boundary setting.

Digital Fatigue

When a person is sitting in front of a computer all day, no matter how much they think they’re accomplishing, a toll is collected. This toll affects a person’s mental and cognitive capacity.

An understanding of how technology screens and interaction affect our brains and behaviors is paramount to successful habit changes. Encouraging breaks is great, but an employee needs to feel true support to actually take said breaks.

Employee Burnout

We tend to award and congratulate our over-achievers, those who are always going forward. As employers, we must understand sustainable and healthy best practices for our employees.

While it’s counter-intuitive, more sleep makes us more productive. Less screen time makes us more productive. Less distractions make us more productive.

To sustain our employees’ energy, enthusiasm, and motivation, we have to provide the right environment to truly thrive.

Does this sound like you or your employees?

There are many blogs, articles, and books in the world that provide tips and ways to improve. But really, what we need to be successful is a culture shift. If this type of work environment isn’t supported from your leaders, it’s incredibly difficult to act on what we know is best for us.

Mindful Use of Technology offers workshops and courses to help show employees that leaders do care. Regardless if you reach out to us or not, know that we support you and your physical and mental well-being as an employee and a human.
